Title: Tunnels

Genre:  Fantasy-Adventure-Science Fiction

Author:  Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams

Number of pages: 496

Major character:

Will is fourteen years old,  British, albino (pale skin

and white hair), loves to work on excavations with his dad or alone, an outcast at school, and is not who he thinks he is at the beginning of the series.

Setting: The London, England area and far underneath, present-day

Summary:  Will lives with a dysfunctional family.  His father is a museum caretaker, whose passion is digging for historical artifacts, and Will shares that passion.  His mother does nothing but watch TV, and it is his younger sister who cares for the house, cooks, pays bills, and keeps the family going.  Will has a new friend named Chester who joins him in his excavations, and when Will’s father goes missing, joins Will in trying to find his father. Will and Chester end up with more adventure, danger, and agony than they would have ever expected.

Rating: *****

Symbolism:  This font is stark and dark, as is the underground world.  The shovel and pickax represent digging and hard work.  The black background represents the darkness the characters find themselves in.  [You can see the black background  if you download the sample by using the link above. ]
